The Social Studies curriculum is skill-intensive. It is carefully integrated with Reading, Writing, Language, and Research to continuously support the development of students’ language. Study skills for planning, organization, and time management are introduced and developed as students move through the program.
Social Studies & Humanities
- In Lower School, students examine the many connections between themselves and others, and among diverse groups of people around the world, present and past.
- In Middle School, students examine how people meet their many needs through a study of civilizations: how they are created, how people organize and govern themselves, how they respond to tension and conflict, and the ways in which conflict can be resolved. Their course of study from 6th through 8th grade covers Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, American history, and the defining events of the 20th century, with an emphasis on human and civil rights.
